Writing an Impactful Profile Statement

Introduce yourself and make a a positive first impression.

November 19, 2024

When you set up your profile on Teacher Recruit you are invited to write a personal statement – About Me - to introduce yourself to schools. This will be the first thing schools read about you, so you want to make a good impression and stand out. You also want to share key information about yourself and your professional achievements. As this is an introduction you only have space for up to 2500 characters, so you do need to think carefully about to include.

To help we have created some tips below, as well as some example profiles you can use to guide you.

Here’s our suggestion on how to structure your profile:

  • Introduction: Open with a sentence that summarises your role, experience, and teaching philosophy. Mention the subjects or grades you teach, and your overall experience.
  • Professional Experience: Describe your teaching experience—schools you’ve worked in, the age groups you've taught, and any unique roles (e.g., department head, curriculum developer).
  • Teaching Style & Philosophy: Highlight your teaching approach, methods, or philosophies. Describe how you engage students, adapt to diverse learning styles, and foster an inclusive, supportive environment.
  • Achievements: Mention any specific accomplishments, awards, or successful projects. Quantify impact where possible (e.g., “increased student engagement by X%”).
  • Skills & Specialisations: Note any additional skills relevant to the role (e.g., technology in the classroom, differentiated instruction, language skills).
  • Passion & Vision: Close with a line about what drives you in teaching and what you hope to bring to the school community.
  • Why are you looking for a new role? If you have indicated, you want to work in a specific country or type of school you can use this as an opportunity to explain why.

Each section can be one to two sentences, so you stay within the character limit while covering key points.

Here are some polished and compelling examples using the structure above and maximising impact within the character limit:
